Hi! I'm Rosie, a Birth Doula based in Wellington, New Zealand.

Navigating pregnancy, childbirth, and a new baby isn’t easy. Whilst often exciting, a lot of new parents find it overwhelming too. As a Birth Doula, I work closely with parents and families by supporting them throughout pregnancy, as well as preparing them for labour, childbirth, and early parenthood.

Hiring a Doula

Every family is different, as is every Doula! So it is really important that you to find the right one for you. You need to feel comfortable and safe with the Doula that you choose as it can make all the difference to your birthing experience. I often recommend meeting a few different Doulas to get a feel for who might work best with you.

If you decide you'd like to meet with me, we'll arrange a meet-up to get to know each other. It's the ideal time for you share a bit about yourself and your expectations of birth, as well as give you the chance to ask me questions and understand more about what I can do for you. There is no obligation with this initial meeting (and is of course free of charge) - I am all about informed choices and want you to make the right decision for you, your family, and your baby.

During pregnancy

If you decide to choose me as your Doula (yay!),  I'll be available by phone, text, or email any time between 9am-9pm daily to answer any questions, calm your nerves, or just to have a chat!

I offer two prenatal visits. The content of these visits are tailored to your specific needs based on info you provide to me, what you want to learn, practice, or discuss. They can involve your partner, another birth partner, or just you!

Here are some examples of what your prenatal visits might involve;

  • Debriefing about previous birth experiences
  • Talking through worries or concerns
  • Learning about the physiology of birth and the hormones involved
  • Techniques; active labour, relaxation, pain relief
  • Help with writing a birth plan

During childbirth

Once you get to 38 weeks, I will be on call for you (and only you) 24/7 until your baby is born.

During this time, I'll be ready to drop everything and come to you. I will stay with you from the moment you want me, throughout labour and birth, and for a short while afterwards.

During labour, I'll be a continuous presence to support you physically and emotionally in any way you need me to.

Here are some examples of what my labour support might involve;

  • Offering your birth partner suggestions and encouragement as needed
  • Suggestions of body positions and movement
  • Massage or counter pressure for pain relief
  • Creation of a calm relaxing birth environment
  • Help with personal care
  • Offering food and drink
  • Providing reassurance and encouragement
  • Supporting all your decisions
  • Capturing memories to share with you afterwards.

After your baby is born

After the birth, I visit you at home to see how you are going. During this visit we can debrief about your birth experience and discuss any questions you may have. I can give you a rest, take care of light household duties, connect you to local support services, demonstrate practical things (i.e. swaddling, calming techniques etc), and just offer general support whilst you're getting used to your new normal.

I would love to hear from you!
